Is the EOP Application deadline different from the CSU Application deadline?
| Yes. The University’s priority filing date is typically between October and November. The EOP filing date for Fall admission is February 1st . For specific deadlines, please visit info.sjsu.edu

When is the deadline to submit the EOP Application and EOP Forms?
| February 1st. If this date falls on a weekend or holiday, then the deadline would be the first business day after February 1st .

What forms do I need when I apply for EOP?
| All 6 pages completely filled out for the EOP Applicant Information Form. Two (2) Recommendation Forms completed entirely by two (2) separate individuals.

Do EOP applicants automatically qualify for an application fee waiver?
| No. Applicants must demonstrate financial need to be considered for a fee waiver. Determination of eligibility will be made when applying to the university online at www.csumentor.edu

How do I check the status of my EOP admission status?
| For questions regarding the status of your EOP application, please contact us at 408-924-2637. This should only be done if you want to confirm that we have received all pieces of your application, and should only be done before February 1st. Calls received after February 1st will not be responded to. All students will be notified of their status in our program, and we are unable to inform students before all decisions have been made. If you have not heard from us by April 15, 2012 and would like to know your status in the program, please call us.

I’ve been admitted to SJSU, but I haven’t heard about my EOP status. What do I do?
| Please wait for us to contact you if you know you applied to EOP at SJSU. If you have not heard from us by April 15, 2012, you may call us at 408-924-2637.

Are graduate students able to apply to EOP?
| No, EOP is specifically for undergraduate students applying for the first time to SJSU.

Are only racial/ethnic minority students admitted to EOP?
| No. Any undergraduate student, who meets EOP income criteria and admission criteria, may be admitted through EOP.

Is income the only criteria for admission to EOP?
| No. While income is the primary criteria looked at, the applicant’s motivation and potential to succeed and other factors are taken into consideration. Students must also be first-generation undergraduate college students and considered California residents.

Does EOP accept students who do not meet regular admission criteria?
| Yes. Although most of SJSU’s EOP students meet the University’s regular admission requirements, the program provides access for a limited number of first-time freshmen who do not qualify for regular admission. Admission to the University through EOPis based on the student’s motivation and potential to succeed in college.

Can I be admitted to SJSU and not to EOP?
| Yes. EOP admission criteria differ from university admission criteria.

Do I need to reapply for EOP every year?
| No. EOP is a determined at the time of admission - once admitted to EOP, you will remain in EOP status throughout your undergraduate education as long as you meet the EOP responsibilities and maintain continuous enrollment. Students previously admitted through regular admissions at SJSU or another CSUcannot be admitted to EOP, unless you were previously an EOP student at another campus.

What if I didn’t apply for EOP when I first started attending SJSU, can I still apply?
| No, EOP applications and status decisions can only be made at the time of admission.

Do students in community college EOP&S programs automatically qualify for EOP at SJSU?
| No. They must submit anEOP application and follow the same procedure as all other applicants. However, special consideration will be given to EOP&S students in an effort to enhance the transfer and graduation rates of these students. EOP and EOP&S are two different programs. |

Is applying to EOP the same as filing the FAFSA?
| No. EOP applicants must submit a FAFSA and other required documents by the Financial Aid Office in order to be considered for financial aid (grants, work study & loans).

How do I qualify for an EOP Grant?
| The EOP Grant is awarded based on: full time (12 units) enrollment each semester, EFC (expected family contribution) and total amount of funding available.

How much is awarded for the EOP Grant?
| Grants can be up to $1500 per academic year. Total amount awarded is based on funding availability.

I did not receive the EOP Grant, whom do I contact?
| The Financial Aid Office handles grant awards. Please contact them directly for more information at 408-283-7500.

Are EOP students automatically eligible for an EOP grant or other financial aid?
| No. EOP students are eligible to receive an EOP grant if their Expected Family Contribution does not exceed $1500. Students must complete and file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and other documents as required by the Financial Aid Office.

Are EOP grants from financial aid automatically given to EOP students?
| No, not all EOP students will receive the grant. EOP grants will be awarded only as long as funds are available. You will have a much better chance of receiving an EOP grant and other financial aid for which you are eligible if you apply before March 2nd. Application for financial aid is a separate process from the EOP admission process.

Can I get other grants even if I do not receive the EOP Grant?
| Yes, other types of aid (grants, scholarships, loans) are available to most students. Actual aid awarded is determined by your need demonstrated on the FAFSA application.

Do I need to apply for financial aid every year?
| Yes, students need to reapply for financial aid for every year. The FAFSA application period opens on January 1st of every year and the priority deadline closes on March 2nd. The earlier you submit your FAFSA form and the sooner you submit all requested documentation to the Financial Aid Office, the sooner you will receive an award letter.

Does EOP at SJSU offer book vouchers, daycare assistance or the CARE program?
| No. Unfortunately, SJSU does not currently offer these services.

Does SJSU offer a Bridge program for new students?
| Yes. All incoming transfer students are invited to a one day Transfer Bridge program. Incoming freshman that do not meet the regular admission criteria and are admitted through a special admit process are required to attend a two week SummerBridge program.

Why would a student who is currently earning good grades benefit from EOP?
| All students need supportive communities to be successful. Very few people succeed alone. EOP has a group of trained professionals that can help foresee and address challenges that students may encounter at the college level.

Can I still receive EOP support services if I don’t receive the EOP Grant?
| Yes, EOP will provide you with services even if you do not receive the grant.

Does EOP offer workshops?
| Yes, we host workshops throughout the semester that are specifically geared towards EOP students.

Can I be removed from the EOP program?
| EOP does not typically remove students from the program if all EOP responsibilities are being met by the student. All students sign a Student Agreement agreeing to be an active participant in the EOP Program.

What types of services does EOP provide to students?
| EOP Advising includes the following: information/explanation of academic policies, procedures and referrals, General Education and university graduation requirements, Four Semester Educational Plan for Freshmen, Assistance with class scheduling, career counseling, personal counseling and advocating on your behalf.

Does EOP have social events where I can meet other EOP students?
| Yes! Some of our past social programs have included EOPwelcome, Study Packs, Talent Show, EOP Word and End of the Semester Celebration just to name a few.

Does EOP have a mentor program?
| Yes, beginning in the Fall 2011, EOP will be able to provide additional support for incoming freshmen, transfer students, Guardian Scholars and our male African American and Latino students.
