This page lists many pertinent academic senate policies, presidential directives and information about grading symbols that may be of use to you as an EOP student. Please read them and contact your advisor if you have questions regarding how it pertains to you.
The Senate and its committees communicate recommendations to the President on such matters as faculty affairs, curriculum, instruction, student affairs, finances and other matters relevant to the welfare of SJSU. San José State University was the first California state university to have an official faculty representative body.

Academic Senate Policies
The University emphasizes responsible citizenship and an awareness of ethical choices inherent in human development. Academic honesty and fairness foster ethical standards for all those who depend upon the integrity of the university, its courses, and its degrees.
Academic Standards: Disqualification and Probation Policy
Students studying for a baccalaureate degree are expected to maintain a grade point
average (GPA) of 2.0 or better in their academic work at SJSU in order to continue
in good standing in the University. In determining a student's eligibility to remain
enrolled in the University, both quality of performance and progress toward the degree
or other program objective are weighed. Quality of performance is determined by the
GPA in all letter-graded courses.
Despite maintaining a SJSU cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better, students’ academic performance
in the major may fall below the minimum standards for those majors. In these cases,
while students remain in overall good standing with the University, they are subject
to probation and disqualification from the major. Each college, school, department,
and program may employ a policy of probation and disqualification from the major.
Policy on Late and Retroactive Enrollment
Student initiated petitions for late enrollment (late adds) will only be accepted for the time period between the add date and the census date. After the census date, late enrollment petitions require additional approval from both the department chair and course instructor.

Grading symbols
Drop and Withdrawal, Retroactive Drop and Retroactive Withdrawal, Assignment of Grades and Grade Appeals, Change of Grade, and Integrity of Academic Record
Withdrawals (WA) after the drop deadline and prior to the last twenty percent of instruction may be assigned only for serious and compelling reason. Withdrawals (WB) shall not be permitted during the final twenty percent of instruction except in cases, such as accident or serious illness, where the cause of withdrawal is due to circumstances clearly beyond the student's control and the assignment of an Incomplete is not practicable.
The basic underlying changes of grade is that all students be treated fairly and be given equal opportunities to demonstrate their academic learning and earn course grades representing that learning. Application of this criterion precludes the assignment of extra credit unless such assignments were made known and available to all students in the class. It further precludes rejudgement, afterthought, or reconsideration of an individual's graded work unless such opportunity for change of grade is made equally available to all students in the class.
Students are responsible for reviewing their grades for accuracy before the beginning of the subsequent term. They are also responsible for verifying their transcripts for changes, e.g. from grade forgiveness, withdrawals, clearance of Incomplete grades or clearance of Report Delayed (RD) grades.
Greensheets enable students to better understand and fulfill their responsibilities as learners in courses. They are a necessary tool in higher education to enable students to take part in the learning process through knowing what is expected of them and what they can expect from the course. Student success is aided by students knowing as much as possible about the course requirements so they can plan their study time and coordinate work assignments from multiple courses. Student success is also aided by encouraging students to contact their professors and providing information about key university policies to which they are subject. In addition, greensheets provide an opportunity to model thorough, clear and professional communication.
Formerly known as "Academic Renewal" at SJSU, Grade Forgiveness is the circumstance in which the new grade replaces the former grade in terms of calculation of GPA. The original grade remains on the transcript.

Graduation and Change of Major
In order to increase space available for new and continuing students, the CSU needs to confer degrees on those students who have completed all degree requirements, but who either have not applied for graduation or who choose not to for a variety of reasons.
The CSU issued Executive Order No. 1043, named Student Conduct Procedures, on August 3, 2009 to outline procedures for administering the Student Conduct Code as well as ensuring students' rights to due process.
