AGENCIES

The World Wide Web has provided easy access to the wonderful world of health related data. I can't imagine or remember what it was like before the WWW hunting for data to justify and document problems and the need for interventions. Below I have a tiny sample of sites that I think are wonderful. Be sure to let me know which of these are helpful to you and others that you will discover.

FEDERAL AGENCIES

www.cdc.gov  The Center for Disease Control. This is the mother of all data resources. They have links to many other federal agencies, as well.

www.childstats.gov The official website of the Federal Interagency Forum on Child and Family statistics. A one stop access to children's data.

www.who.int  World Health Organization

www.nimh.nih.gov  Institute of Mental Health

www.niddk.nih.gov Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases

www.niaid.nih.gov  National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases

OUTCOMES (AS PREPARED BY AN AGENCY)

www.guideline.gov  The Agency for Health Care Policy and Research has established guidelines for various clinical conditions that can be used as outcome measures or quality guidelines. This is a wonderful resources as every guideline is recent and approved by a panel of experts.

www.nursingworld.org/readroom/fssafe99.htm  The ANA has done some great work on identifying nursing sensitive quality indicators for acute settings. Would these indicators (outcome measures) be a reflection of nursing quality in your work setting? What changes might you suggest?

www.nursingworld.org/quality/ This is ANA's page on safety and quality. The best part here is the "other links" page that might have something relevant for you.

PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATIONS
