Welcome to the Nursing 200: Health Care Systems Home Page! This web site is intended to encourage student involvement with the topics discussed in class. Take some time to browse through the other pages and the links to other relevant web sites. As you work on the group project, you will find links to governmental agencies, versions of California legislation, and legislators on the Legislation page. The purpose of the health care system, of course, is to improve the health and well being of all Americans. Healthy People is a national health promotion and disease prevention program with the goal of improving health, eliminating disparities in health, and improving years and quality of healthy life. You can learn more about this initiative at www.health.gov/healthypeople/ . You may also be interested in seeing the leading health indicators for improvement in the health of Americans at www.health.gov.healthypeople/Document/HTML/Volume1/indi.htm In this course we will be discussing how well the health care system as it is today meets the needs of Americans in order to reach these goals. What do you think? What are your observations about how current health care services do or do not positively influence health and well being. If you were the U.S. Health Care Czar, what types of health care agencies would you establish as a priority? What health care indicators would you use to show effectiveness?
