Historically in the United States and Europe many attempts have been made to set up utopian societies (also known as communes). Write a 3-4 page essay (1,000 words) in which you research one such society, answering (at a minimum) the following research questions:

1. How did this society originate?
2. What makes this society utopian? Does it share any traits with the societies we have read about so far? 
3. What were the basic principles of the society?
4. How successful was it?
5. Why/how did it fail (if it failed)?
6. What, if anything, is its legacy? 
7. What was the most surprising thing your research uncovered?
