Write an essay (no fewer than 1000 words) in which you explain the philosophy that Ayn Rand expresses in Anthem and then compare it to the concepts behind the video game Bioshock. The character in the game who founded and built Rapture (the underwater city in which the game is played) is called Andrew Ryan—an allusion to Ayn Rand. What other things to you notice about Rapture and about the game itself that comment on Rand’s philosophies? Discuss your experience of playing the game and exploring Rapture in light of what you have learned about Rand. Can you figure out how Rapture went from a utopia to the dystopia we find as we play the game?
