Directions for Film Reviews:

Imagine you are a film critic and your job is to evaluate films for a newspaper.  After you view the required films, write up a review that informs your audience about the virtues and/or pitfalls of the film.  Avoid subjective statements about whether you “liked” or “didn’t like” a particular approach.  Instead, tell your audience what you felt worked well, and what you thought could have been improved given your knowledge of Shakespeare’s playtext.  You might evaluate the performances of the actors, and also the variety of choices made by the director in terms of setting, scene selection, editing, or music.   You should focus your response on whether you felt that the adaptation adequately presented Shakespeare’s themes or fell short.  Did you notice Shakespeare’s themes being “stretched” or altered to express a new message or theme?  If so, explain how.

Your reviews should be single spaced, and approximately 500 words (1 page, single spaced).

Due dates for reviews are listed on the greensheet.
