ORGANIZATIONAL COMMUNICATION INQUIRY DIAGNOSIS RESEARCH PAPER

PURPOSE:

The purpose of this assignment is to develop awareness of organizational communication issues (topics) that need to be researched in our communities and organizations. Specifically, the purpose of this paper is FIRST to identify TWO  (2) communication issues (topics) that need to be researched  in an organization of your choice. This organization could be the organization you are currently working in now or a former one, as long as you can have access to interview two employes or managers (supervisors).  And SECOND,  to develop a RESEARCH AGENDA FOR EACH ONE that includes the following issues; 1) Why it is important to do the research; 2) What specific aspects should be researched; 3) What methods should be used; 4) Who should be the researcher; and 5) Who should be the participants in the research (the sample).

TOPIC AND CONTENT:

The TWO issues or topics to be addressed in this paper should be COMMUNICATION RELATED ISSUES: First, a communication strength, and second,  communication weakness (problem). 

STRUCTURE of the Paper:

1. Start with a very brief opening statement on the purpose of the paper and preview main points. (1/4 of a Page; 0.50 points)

2. Describe (briefly) the ORGANIZATION. Type of organization, its mission, where it is located, number of people, structure of the organization, and your responsibilities and tasks. (1/2 page; 2 points)

3. Identify and discuss the first major communication issue (Communication Strength)   (
2 pages; 6 points)

  Discuss the following issues: 

1. Why is it important to research this topic?  (3 reasons or benefits)

2. What specific aspects of the topic should be researched? (2 or 3 especific aspects
 

3. How this topic should be researached? What do you think is the most appropriate method (Interviews, Survey, Experiment, Observation,..) Explain why providing 3 reasons. 

4. Who should be the researcher? (External consultant, Manager, or trained employee,) Explain why providing 3 reasons. 

5. Who should be the subjects that participate in this research (the sample)? How many? Explain why providing 3 reasons.

4. Identify and discuss the second major communication issue (Communication Weakness) (2 pages; 6 points)

Discuss the following issues:

1. Why is it important to research this topic?  (3 reasons or benefits)

2. What specific aspects of the topic should be researched? (2 or 3 especific aspects 

3. How this topic should be researached? What do you think is the most appropriate method (Interviews, Survey, Experiment, Observation,..) Explain why providing 3 reasons.

5. Who should be the subjects that participate in this research (the sample)? How many? Explain why providing 3 reasons. 

5. Brief conclusion on the relevance of writing this paper (1/4 of a page; 0.50 points)

INTERVIEW GUIDE: 

 To write this paper you MUST CONDUCT TWO (2)  IN-DEPTH INTERVIEWS with organizational people. And before you do so you MUST DEVELOPED AN INTERVIEW GUIDE.

  This is the Interview Guide Sample and the questions you should asked:

 1. First Communication topic: (A Communication Strength) 

Questions: (These are the 5 questions and follow-ups to ask to each of your Two (2) interviewees)

1. Why is it important to research this topic?  Please give me 2 or 3 reasons or benefits)

2. What specific aspects of the topic should be researched? Please name 2 or 3 especific aspects

3. How this topic should be researached? What do you think is the most appropriate method (Interviews, Survey, Experiment, Observation,..) Please tell me why?  (2 or 3 reasons)

4. Who should be the researcher? (External consultant, Manager, or trained employee,) And please tell me why (2 or 3 reasons)

5. Who should be the subjects that participate in this research (the sample)? How many? And why (2 or 3 reasons) 

 2. Second Communication  Topic :  (A Communication Weakness)

 The above same five questions doing the necessary adaptations 

 CITATION OF SOURCES (Interviewees): 

You must support the content of your paper with COMMENTS FROM YOUR TWO (INTERVIEWEES) (managers, supervisors, subordinates, or customers). These sources must be properly cited: first, in the paper and second, listed in the REFERENCE section at the end of the paper in page 6. :

WRITING: 

In order to get a good grade on this paper, try to answer the questions thoroughly, creatively and in depth. Your writing must be persuasive by making a solid argument (reasons) for each of the issues you are discussing in your paper. And support your argument by some insterviees' comments.
