COMM 173F: INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION AND GLOBAL UNDERSTANDING / F. VARONA / Fall 2020

BIBLIOGRAPHIC RESEARCH PAPER

PURPOSE:
The purpose of this assignment is to give you the opportunity of exploring what is being researched in the field of Intercultural Communication, methods, and results. This assignment will also allow you to research one Intercultural Communication topic or issue of your interest. This assignment meets the Learning Objectives #1 and #3.

PROCEDURE:
To complete this assignment: First, SELECT ONE INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION TOPIC or issue of your interest. Second, READ TWO (2) RESEARCH ARTICLES that deal with the topic you have selected. (The names of Journals that might be used for this assignment will be provided in class).

CONTENT AND ORGANIZATION:
The content and the organization of your paper must be as follows:

1. Have a very short purpose statement and preview main points of paper.
2. Report 2 PURPOSES (One from each study). Report the main purpose that researchers wanted to accomplish by doing the research. Report purposes that are clear and specific.(1/2 page) 2 points.

3. Report all the RESEARCH METHODS used in the two studies: (1/2 page) 2 points:
a) List the methods for COLLECTING DATA;
b) List the methods for ANALYZING DATA;
c) Describe briefly some of the characteristics of the subjects used in the study (the sample sex, age, education, ethnicity, etc.)

4. Report 4 MAJOR FINDINGS (Two from each study) (1 page) 3 points. These findings must refer to the aspects that researchers learned about the topic as a result of doing the research. Select the ones that are more meaningful and appealing to you. Report findings that are clear and specific.

5. CONCLUSION (1 page) 3 points. EVALUATE the relevance of the study in terms of what: 1) you have learned, 2) the contribution that this research does to the field of Intercultural Communication, and 3) the social and/or personal implications of the findings.

The reference of research articles must be in the last page of the paper (page 4). In order to get a good grade on this paper, try to answer the questions thoroughly, creatively and in depth. If you have any question concerning this assignment, please see me.

This paper is 3 pages, typed, 1.5 spaced. It is worth 10 points.
