Parameter - a population-based statistical constant (e.g., the population mean) that the researcher wishes to infer; parameters often describe a characteristic or relationship within a population. The parameter is assumed to be error free -- free from both random and systematic error (cf. "estimate"). Examples of parameters are the population mean (µ), the population variance (s), and the population relative risk (RR).
