Summary Statistics, Paired Samples

We routinely report the mean and standard deviation of each variable. The sample size should also be reported as a given. The minimum and maximum may be reported at the users option. Additional 5-point summary statistics (the median, Q1, and Q3) may be reported at the user's discretion.

If paired samples X1 and X2 are entered into an Epi Info data file, we calculate summary statistics for each by issuing separate MEANS commands against them.

Difference variable DELTA is created by issuing the command:

EPI6> DEFINE DELTA <###.##>

where <###.##> represents a variable indicator of sufficient type and length to hold all potential difference information.

A means command is then directed toward DELTA.
