Test of the Adjusted Measure of Association (Mantel-Haenszel Test)

(A) Set up null and alternative hypotheses

H0: aMA = 1
H1: aMA not = 1

where MA represents the adjusted measure of association, either a summary measure of RR or OR.

(B) Set alpha level

(C) Test statistic is the Mantel-Haenszel chi-square. The p value is the probability region in right tail of a chi-square probability distribution with 1 degree of freedom.

(D) Conclusion: Reject H0 if p < alpha.
