GENERAL OBJECTIVES

  1. To improve reasoned judgement.
  2. To increase the ability to collect and store data, describe and explore data using summary statistics, frequencies, and plots, and draw inferences from data using confidence intervals and hypothesis tests of significance.

SPECIFIC LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  1. To understand some basics of study design.
  2. To be able to create a data entry form for on-screen data entry, enter data into a data base, validate the data, store the information for future use, and document data with a data definition table/code book.
  3. To calculate and interpret statistics for a binomial count or proportion.
  4. To calculate and interpret statistics for cohort studies.
  5. To calculate and interpret statistics for case-control studies.
  6. To perform inferences on variances.
  7. To calculate and interpret statistics for paired samples and their difference.
  8. To calculate and interpret statistics for k independent samples and their difference.
  9. To calculate and interpret statistics for 2 independent samples and their difference, especially when pursing post-hoc multiple comparisons.
  10. To perform and understand the basis of correlation analyses.
  11. To perform and understand the basis of simple regression.
