Week 0
- Highlights from the syllabus ("greensheet") --
syllabus is too detailed in places for first week use - explain reason
- Website: www.sjsu.edu/faculty/gerstman/muse.
Bookmark it. Check it three times per week (at minimum).
- Course organization: meet Tu & Th noon - 1:15; true seminar
-- students teaching students; if you cannot attend every session, then
drop this course!
- Textbook (p. 2) - not in campus store (although I ordered it in
April). It will be in after labor day, or you can order it online. We can
make do for now.
- Academic integrity (p. 2) - Copying the work of another person (scholar,
fellow-student, whom-ever) and claiming it as your own is plagiarism. Plagiarism does not preclude
cooperative learning and collaborating IF AND ONLY IF done selectively and
where permitted. THIS ISSUE IS IMPORTANT TO ME, so we will discuss it in
class. Click here for
additional comment and resources.
- Disruptive and other inappropriate behavior (p. 3) - you are in
college now; high school behavior is not acceptable. Discuss.
- Grades (p. 4) - See table on syllabus. Miscellaneous (10%),
Exams (30%), Presentations and reviews (30%), Research paper (30%)
- Schedule (p. 4) - this schedule is just an outline; the
official schedule in one www.sjsu.edu/faculty/gerstman/muse
