The Dark Door

Back

PREVIOUS In the end, more complete pictures of each side of the gothic doppelganger can be seen. The light side is more of a mask worn when trust is needed, it is more submissive and passive in behavior, with more rational thought than violence and can be seen as the 'good' side. The dark side tends to be stronger, commanding, and agressive and lurks until it's ready. It also tends to be an outsider in whatever society the light side is in, such as Matilda being a woman in the Abbey where only men study, Satan being cast out of heaven and pretending to be an angel on earth, Hyde is created by Jekyll and has no connections outside of the two, and Dracula, not only as a foreigner in London, but and Un-dead in the world of the living. The Gothic doppelganger goes beyond just a ghost or shadow of another person. It becomes two seperate identities that can exist inside one person, though generally the darker side is dominant and only uses the lighter side to it's advantage.
