Dropkixx win in rout behind huge second half
SAN JOSE, CA – On match day three of the Spartan Premier League, it
was no match. The Dropkixx came out of
halftime and ran roughshod over the visiting Riots to earn their first win of the
young season 8-2 on Monday afternoon at Spartan Field.
In
what looked like an even and uneventful match through the first half, each team
found the net just before halftime. Just
over two minutes from the halftime whistle, Roxy “Cinderella” Kamal opened the
scoring for the Dropkixx as she buried a feed from Lauren “The Fast and the
Furious” Ng-Pinkerton. The Dropkixx
thought they were going to go into the break with a 1-0 lead, but they turned
out to be wrong. With 45 seconds
remaining, Katie “The Rookie” Knopp sent a shot past goalkeeper Sarah “Eight
Crazy Nights” Wisotsky but Hallsie “A Bug’s Life” Pacheco darted in to clear
the ball off the goalline. Pacheco’s
heroics were short-lived, however, as Knopp regained possession, dribbled
endline and fired a low cross which teammate Michelle “Mean Girls” Haughey
dummied to a wide open Liz “The Fugitive” Behlen who slotted the ball into the
corner to level the game at 1-1.
With
the first half being a defensive battle, the Dropkixx were determined to jump
out of the gates in the second half.
“I
was disappointed with our attacking in the first half,” team captain Wisotsky
said. “I told our team at halftime that
I wanted to up the tempo. If we didn’t
score in the first minute I was going to go up top and play forward and show
off my mad skillz!”
It
worked. Just 27 seconds in, the
Kamal/Ng-Pinkerton connection struck again as Kamal finished a breakaway past
the diving Nina “21” Butera once again giving the Dropkixx an advantage. The ‘Kixx doubled its lead when Shanelle
“Clueless” Furner blasted a shot from distance on a pass from Mandy “Happy
Gilmore” Martin.
Behlen
struck again for the Riots on a nifty pass from Haughey to cut into the
Dropkixx lead.
It
may have been close on the scoreboard at that point, but the last 20 minutes
belonged to the green. Pacheco started
her hat trick bid off an assist from Kamal and then added her own with no help
minutes later. Ng-Pinkerton scored her
own goal just a minute later on a pass from Martin to give the Dropkixx a 6-2
lead. The two reversed roles just three
minutes later as Ng-Pinkerton returned the favor feeding Martin for the
goal. Pacheco finished off the scoring
for the day and her hat trick with just under four minute from time taking a
long service from Kamal and finishing into the lower right corner.
“Once
Liz scored, I got a bit worried at 3-2,” Pacheco said. “I said hell no! We ain’t losin’ this game suckaz! I just said that it is time for everyone to
see the Hallsie show… standing room only!”

for each other. How risky!!!) In other actions, the league reallocated
Kelsy “Se7en” Holm to the Riots in exchange for Brittany “Terminator” Boehm and
Stephanie “Mr. Baseball” Righetti to the Dropkixx for Michelle “Mean Girls”
Haughey. The moves were to satisfy local
television promotions involving school children and an occasional stalker. Lauren “The Waterboy” Sanchez was again fined
$0.75 for her lack of participation in today’s match.
