of exciting SPL action, there was not too much separating the Riots from the
Dropkixx on Monday afternoon at Spartan Field. The two league favorites battled
away, trading goals in a game that saw seven lead changes and eight ties,
but the last 10 minutes belonged to the Dropkixx, scoring four of the final

Spartan Premier League Office (SPL), the Inaugural Player Draft for the 2009
season was held in front of a standing-room crowd (actually true this time,
someone was standing). The two franchises, the Riots and the Dropkixx each

Team Names and
Logos Announced
SAN JOSE, CA -- After months of speculation and anticipation,
marketing, polling and research development, the new soccer league SPL, Spartan
Premier League released the names and logos of its two new franchises today
to the media.
In an afternoon press-conference (in which no one again showed up), SPL Commissioner
Jeff “The big mean guy” Leightman unveiled the new trademarks
to the roaring (non-existent) crowd. The two franchises will be named “The
Riots” and the “Dropkixx.” [more]

Professional League Formed
SAN JOSE, CA -- After two plus years of waiting for elite
women’s soccer to come back to the United States, the wait is over and
a new hope has emerged (no… we are not talking about the WPS). On January
13, 2009, Commissioner Jeff Leightman officially announced a new women’s
soccer league to the media. At the news conference (in which no one showed
up), Leightman unveiled the new league, named SPL or Spartan Premier League.
