This final group project has a wide array of possibilities which I hope lead to some surprises.
Problem:
To create a billboard design which focuses on one element and re-imagines one master painting. This can be interpreted an any way the group sees fit using photography and/or digital media but the final design must be unified, balanced, and have a strong figure/ground relationship.
Procedure:
- Five groups will be assigned.
- Each group will work with one Element.
- Each group will work with one master composition. (chosen from monotype paintings)
- Each group member will be assigned one of the following jobs:
- Tech: owns laptop with Photoshop or similar software, is responsible for image processing (with group participation) and the final output in the correct size (1200x600 pixels) emailed to me by due date. Note: the laptop owner should be the only person to handle her/his laptop.
- Photographer: owns a camera, responsible for shooting the work (with active participation by the rest of the group) and getting it to the tech.
- Coordinator/writer: Organizes meetings, takes notes, communicate with members, writes a short description of the design process including information about the artist, painting and element used.
Criteria in order of importance:
- Collaboration: All group members, regardless of job assignment should participate actively in all aspects of the project. Group memebers must show up on time, stay for the entire class period, share your ideas, and be an active part of the process.
- The ideas of how to reinterpret the chosen painting should be creative and original.
- The element should be prominent.
- The billboard composition should be formally strong.
- The written description of the project and artist/painting should be informative.
