Line networks-Landscape / PEN & INK - 2 on one 9x12 sheet of bristol board
MATERIALS: approximately 9x12" bristol board; Pen & Ink
PROCEDURE: Line networks (pen & ink). Re-interpret two of your Memory Landscapes into a Harmony composition (on left) and a Variety composition (on right). Pen and Ink, ONLY LINE on bristol (draw two picture frames on one 9x12 piece of bristol). Here are some examples from last semester - keep in mind this semester we are making one "Harmony" and one "Variety".
CRITERIA:
- Good figure/ground relationship (Line will create shapes. All shapes must be interesting.)
- Good, clean presentation. crisp borders etc.

MATERIALS: 8x10 scrap paper (newspaper, phone book pages, or used computer paper)
PROCEDURE: Using broad strokes, thick and thin, divide space into:
- Horizontal/vertical lines composition
- Diagonal composition
CRITERIA:
- Good figure/ground relationship
- Interesting Line quality (fresh)
- Line speed
SELF-PORTRAIT
- HOMEWORK: 9x12” bristol: Working from a mirror, draw a series of 12 thumbnail self portraits, looking for a good figure/ground composition using only LINE. Use pencil. We will ink these in class.
- On 9x12” bristol: Draw a frame 7x9”. Enlarge (to scale) one of these compositions using only line networks.

- Good figure/ground relationship (ground is cut up by portrait)
- Line quality
- Presentation
