HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT: PHOTOSHOOT PORTRAIT
MATERIALS: Camera, light source, a model, a way to print 4 photos (3.5x5")
PROCESS:
1.
Choose a model (friend, parent etc.)
2. Consider your light source (NO FLASH) Your goal is to have a portrait which is high key (light) on one side and low key (dark) on the other. Here are some examples of SINGLE SOURCE lighting
- a lamp or spotlight
-
a window (model should have one side facing the window with light coming through, room should have no light)
- outdoors (must be clear day) in early morning or late afternoon (sun is low in the sky)
THE SHOOT:
The final output will be 4 photos - printed. Size of photos is approximately 3.5"x5" each (4 should fit on one sheet of photo paper). Each photo should be a cropped closeup of 1/4 of the person's face. The four quarters will add up to one portrait. It is ok for the model (or you) to move around. It is ok to have a disjuncted total (it is good if the pieces don't fit exactly right! - be creative in portraying your model).
I recommend shooting more photos than you will need (20 or so). All MUST be extreme closeups and cropped. If you are using photoshop it is ok to crop photos further but do NOT take one photo and cut it up in photoshop.
DUE DATE: Tuesday, 10/15 (if students do not have photos on this day the photo portion of this project will drop 10%)
PART 2 OF VALUE PROJECT : We will begin work on the painting portion of this project next week. Bring Illustration board and acrylic paints, brushes, water container, pallet (can use plexiglass) and a rag.
