COLOR AND LIGHT PROJECT

GOALS:

  1. to explore the work (color) of one artist in depth
  2. to explore the relationship between the additive and subtractive spectrums by translating the chosen artist's use of color (subtractive/reflective) into a digital medium (additive/light).

PREPARATION & PROCESS:

  1. Get to know your chosen artist VISUALY as well as details of his/her life (time period, artistic Movement associated with etc.)
  2. Observe and record COLORS and COLOR RELATIONSHIPS related to your chosen artist.
  3. Make a digital Color Cart (72dpi, 3x9inches). Demo will be given in class. untitled Upload this chart to a photo album on one of the free sites (flickr, picasa etc.). Post a link to your chart on the COMMENTS section of the "Artist and Projects Links" blog. Also include a link to your chosen artist. Here is an example of the information I need:
  4. Reinterpret your artist's work into a series of images using a digital medium (digital photos, photoshop project, digital video). You should not copy the artist's work but create images that reflect his/her use of color. The series should consist of a minimum of 18-24 images that form a formally unified whole.
  5. Do not  copy or scan the artist’s work.

CRITERIA:

  1. Focused observation of color related to your artist. (this is evidenced by your Chart and final SET but also by your process and discussions with me and your group)
  2. The series should form a unified whole.
  3. The series should capture the SPIRIT of your chosen artist's use of color in an original way.
  4. It should connect to your own time and place (contemporary).
  5. You are responsible to know essential facts about your artist (time period, movement, country)

Questions for group discussion during critique:

  1. What do each of your artists have in common?
  2. What were they reflecting of their time? note: "... a work of art holds up (focuses) for everyone the understanding of being (in its time)" -H.Dreyfus
  3. Did use of color play a part in this?
