About:

I received a B. A. in philosophy and psychology, from Salisbury University, an M. A. in philosophy from Ohio University and completed my Ph.D. in social/cultural foundations of sport and cultural studies at the University of Tennessee. I am currently an associate professor in the Department of Kinesiology at San José State University. As the department's interdisciplinary specialist in sport studies, I teach a wide assortment of courses ranging from activity classes, to general education classes, to graduate research methods. My current research interests are mainly interdisiplinary and focus on: sporting narratives and moral choice, sport and identity, service learning for social justice, and sport & the media. In addition, along with Dr. Ted Butryn, I am the co-director of the Department of Kinesiology Qualitative Research Lab. Aside from my teaching and research responsibilities, I serve as the faculty advisor for the departmental student organization.

Apart from my academic pursuits, my interests are varied and include:

Bicycles - I have raced both road and mountain bicycles at the amateur level for many years and recently began learning the nuances of bicycle track racing at the Hellyer Park Velodrome in San José, California.
