The Library has some wonderful sources of information and one of the top ones is the Expanded Academic Index, also known as Info Trac. This database provided information on articles from 1500 magazines and journals. It provides abstracts on these articles and often the full text. It lists articles from one newspaper, The New York Times, but other than the citation information on date and page location only the title of the article is supplied.

To use the Info Trac--Expanded Academic Inex database follow these steps:

• Log-on to the SJSU Library website at
  http://www.library.sjsu.edu
• Select: Books, Articles & More
• Select: Databases A-Z
• In the listing of alphabet select: I
• Find the row for Info Trac Web and select: Expanded Academic Index

In the Info Trac Expanded Academic ASAP site search for articles using Keyword Search as follows:

• Below the text area for entering the search words note that there are radio buttons to choose between searching for the keywords in the title, citation or abstract and in the entire article. Choose the search in the title, citation or abstact to do your first searches.
• In the entry box enter the keywords you want to use in the search, say privatization AND China. (The search is not case sensitive so you do not need to worry about capitalization.)
• Click on Search.
• Above the yellow Keyword search box there are two lines that tell you that 200 citations were found.
• Click on View to see them.
• The articles are listed by date with the most recent first.
• If you click on the underlined title (the hyperlink) for the article you can view what is available. You can print out what is there or save it to a disk for later viewing. If you save it to a disk you can select the portions that you want saved and you can save it under whatever filename you want but it is probably best to end the filename with .htm. When you are finished viewing one article click on Back to return to the article listing.
• If you want to narrow the search, say to only articles published after the year 2000 that can be done using the option available below the yellow Keyword search box.
• You can also compile a listing of articles, called a mark list. There is a limit of 50 citations in any one mark list.
• This source can be accessed off campus by SJSU students by means of a proxyword available from Clark Library.
