The Image and Consumer Society

We begin to engage the relationship between modern and postmodern culture in which images and objects lose their identification with intended uses or means of production. Ironically, as commodities become more disposable and interchangeable they increasingly serve as visual texts for satire and critique. How do individuals use these visual texts for their own purposes - seeking individuality through the exotic and banal - even while affirming the power of global branding?
