Bio

Dr. Osterling earned a B.A. in psychology and literature from the University of California at Santa Cruz, an M.S.W. from San Jose State University, and a Ph.D. in social welfare from the University of California at Berkeley.

Her research interests are focused on understanding developmental pathways among children of color, particularly immigrant children, and the ways in which government-based policies aimed at supporting families, impact children's developmental outcomes. Contexts that are of particular interest to Dr. Osterling include: the influence of economic hardship and lack of access to resources, the home environment and parenting practices, social networks, and how social welfare systems, in particular the child welfare system, and public assistance programs, impact these processes and outcomes.

Dr. Osterling's practice interests are focused on cross-system collaboration among social welfare systems, child welfare services, administration and management, and culturally competent human service delivery. She currently teaches courses in the Research Sequence in the M.S.W. program.
