Special Circumstances Sometimes a student's or
parent's actual situation is not adequately reflected on the FAFSA since the
data submitted is from the previous calendar year. However, the federal
government does allow the financial aid administrator to take into account
special circumstances which occur during the current award year that may affect
the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) and the financial aid award. Some
examples of special circumstances are recent unemployment, divorce, death,
disability, large uninsured medical/dental expenses, childcare, etc. Students
who feel they have a special circumstance should contact a financial
aid counselor
and submit the Request for Review of Special
Circumstances form. This form becomes available
beginning September 15, 2009. The last day to submit it is April 10,
2010.
