Welcome!

The Department of Foreign Languages at San José State University is a comprehensive, full-service foreign language department. It offers challenging and rich programs of study in a variety of languages: Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Portuguese, Punjabi, Spanish, and Vietnamese. Under the guidance of a highly qualified and dedicated faculty, students may earn minors in Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Italian, Spanish, a Special Minor in Portuguese Studies and baccalaureate degrees in Chinese, French, German, Japanese and Spanish. They may also earn Master of Arts degrees in French or Spanish.

The Department contributes to the preparation of teachers by offering courses in the subject matters, teacher preparation courses and supervised teacher training leading to a secondary teaching credential, awarded in conjunction with the College of Education. The Department of Foreign Languages contributes to the University, and the community at large by providing instruction in foreign language and culture to students from departments and colleges across the University.
