Meta Marion Goldsmith Scholarship


Application deadline March 21, 2008. Please check back Spring 2009.

Scholarships are for students majoring and minoring in Foreign Languages. Foreign Language Graduate students and Teacher Education candidates may also eligible, depending on available funding:

  • Foreign Language Minors will receive up to $1,000 ($500 per semester).
  • Foreign Language Majors will receive up to $2,500 ($1,250 per semester).
  • Graduate Students and Teacher Education candidates in Foreign Languages will
    receive up to $2,500 ($1,250 per semester)
  • Scholarships may be renewed for a second year, students need to reapply.

Required Qualifications for Majors and Minors

  • Have officially declared a major or minor in a foreign language at SJSU, prior to Spring 2008
  • Have completed at least one semester of foreign language study a the college level
  • Be a student enrolled in a foreign language class each of the semesters receiving the scholarship
  • Have an overall GPA of 3.0
  • Have a Foreign Language GPA of 3.5 (3.75 for merit-only applicants)
  • The recommendation of a foreign language faculty member at SJSU
  • Financial need certified by the Office of Financial Aid or exceptional merit as determined by the Scholarship Committee (not needed for merit-only applicants)
    Superior GPA (3.5 overall, 3.75 in major), Leadership in FL clubs, Honor Society, student outreach, other FL activities.

Required Qualifications for Graduate Students and Teacher Education Candidates

  • Be enrolled in a graduate or credential program in Foreign Languages at SJSU
  • Be a student enrolled in FL courses each of the semesters receiving the scholarship
  • Have a Foreign Language GPA of 3.5 (3.75 for merit-only applicants)
  • The recommendation of a foreign language instructor
  • Financial need certified by the Office of Financial Aid or exceptional merit as determined by the Scholarship Committee (not needed for merit-only applicants)
    Superior GPA (3.75 in major), Leadership in FL clubs, Honor Society, student outreach, other FL activities.

Application Procedure

Applications available in the Spring semester, pick up a MMG Scholarship packet in Department of Foreign Languages office, Clark Hall 421.
