Paula Scholarship


The Spanish Section at San José State University invites outstanding students in Spanish to apply for the Paula Scholarship funded by donations and by the author Isabel Allende in the name of her daughter who died tragically in 1992. The scholarship is open to students in Spanish who meet the terms and conditions listed below.

Student Application Terms and Conditions

The following criteria will be used by the Coordinator of the Paula Scholarship, selected by Isabel Allende or her designee from among the Spanish faculty at San José State, in awarding scholarships. The Coordinator of the Paula Scholarship will work in conjunction with Spanish Section Scholarship Committee.
All student applicants must fulfill the following:

  • Be fully matriculated students majoring in Spanish at San José State University.
  • Be upper division (senior standing) or graduate students in the year they receive the grant and have at least a 3.0 grade point average.
  • Document their talent for and interest in Hispanic Studies by writing an essay in Spanish.
