Meet All Deadlines

If you miss an SJSU deadline, we will withdraw your application for admission, and you will not be able to attend SJSU for the term you originally intended. If you have an extreme hardship or unusual circumstance that may cause you to miss one of our deadlines, contact immediately.

9 Steps to Enrollment

Before starting the Steps to Enrollment process, make sure you have activated your MySJSU account. SJSU communicates by posting items to your “To Do List” and sending messages to your MySJSU account.

Submit Your Intent to Enroll

If admitted, you must complete the Next Steps Intent to Enroll process by the date posted on your MySJSU “To Do List”. The Next Steps Intent to Enroll process includes accepting SJSU’s offer of admission, signing up for placement exams, signing up for Frosh Orientation, and paying for orientation. All steps must be completed to maintain admission at SJSU.

Sign up for Frosh Orientation

Attending Frosh Orientation at SJSU is mandatory. During the Next Steps Intent to Enroll process, you will select a Frosh Orientation date. This date can not be changed.

Pay Your Enrollment Deposit

In order to complete the Next Steps Intent to Enroll process, you will be prompted to pay your enrollment deposit via our Cashnet website (link provided in your Next Steps portal). Your non-refundable $250 Enrollment Deposit includes your Orientation payment and deposit toward a portion of your tuition and fees for Fall 2018.

If you complete the FAFSA/CA Dream Act application by March 2 and have an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) of $800 or less, you may qualify for a partial reduction of the enrollment deposit. You will still need to submit the non-refundable orientation fee by May 1 to complete your intent to enroll, but you will not be required to submit the tuition and fees portion of the Enrollment Deposit.

If admitted, you will see the reduced amount reflected on your Next Steps account when you go to pay for your Enrollment Deposit. To check your current EFC, consult your Preliminary Award/Award information in your Next Steps account.



Apply for Campus Housing

You will be required to live in campus Housing for your first year if you are an admitted freshman who graduated from a high school located in a city outside a 30-mile radius of SJSU. The priority Housing application deadline is May 1 for the Fall term.

Choose Your Fall Writing Course

Prior to attending Frosh Orientation, you will complete an exercise that will help you choose the best first-year writing course for you. Look for messages about the First Year Writing Program in your MySJSU account after you submit your Intent to Enroll.

Attend Mandatory Frosh Orientation

Frosh Orientation is a mandatory one-day program that will acquaint you with the campus, college, and major department. If you are late or leave during any portion of the program, your admission will be withdrawn.

Submit Final Transcripts (with Graduation Date) and Documents

We review your final transcript to verify that you completed all required courses for admission. This includes passing required courses with a C- or better. Final transcripts must include your graduation date and must be submitted by the date listed on your MySJSU “To Do List”. If you have AP, IB or CLEP exam results, please have official test results sent to SJSU.

Pay Tuition and Fees 

Fees are due after registering for your classes. Check your MySJSU account under "Finances" to see your payment due date.

Participate in Early Start Program
(if required)

The Early Start Program allows students with remedial requirements to begin working towards college readiness in the summer prior to their freshman year.
