As of the Fall semester of 2010, San Jose State no longer accepts English medium as a substitute for an English-proficiency exam, such as the TOEFL, IELTS, or Pearson Test of English. Neither letters from applicants nor from institutions will be accepted. Unless one has attented an institution in a native-English speaking country for at least three years or from which a bachelor's or master's degree has been earned, no waivers of the English-proficiency exam are possible. Please see the university catalog and the section on Graduate Program Test Requirements on this site for the minimum scores accepted in the various exams.
