Master of Science in Engineering (MSE) Program
The MSE degree is an interdisciplinary program with the primary objectives of offering the practicing engineer the opportunity to develop a wide range of knowledge and skills needed to function in today's complex industrial environment.
The program is designed to provide flexibility for students who need coursework that is interdisciplinary and not available through the other engineering programs in the college. The MSE program typically includes courses from at least three different programs in the College of Engineering, and may also use courses in the College of Science or the College of Business.
Program Learning Outcomes
After compleing the MSE program, students will be able to:
PLO 1 ‐ Work collaboratively with various disciplines of engineering, science and
PLO 2 ‐ Apply advanced theory and analysis for problem solving and synthesize and integrate information in the engineering process.
PLO 3 ‐ Effectively communicate for problem analysis and solutions.
PLO 4 ‐ Deliver effective presentations of engineering activities in written and oral formats.
PLO 5 ‐ Be aware of ethical, economic and environmental implications.
Students that complete the MSE program will also meet the University Learning Goals.
Students must complete 30 units of coursework, including a culminating experience (thesis or project), as described in the SJSU Catalog.
Electronic Materials and Devices Concentration
The General Engineering program also offers an MSE degree with concentration in Electronic Materials and Devices. The concentration in Electronic Materials and Devices provides students with an in-depth education in electronic materials processes and semiconductor devices design. This concentration includes elective emphases in the areas of Electronic Materials, Custom Analog VLSI and Custom Digital VLSI. Students may also choose to combine concentration electives to develop a custom emphasis, such as Mixed Signal VLSI.
Degree requirements for this concentration are available in the SJSU Catalog.
