In addition to its exceptional beauty, New Zealand is known for its commitment in integrating Maori principles and perspectives into all facets of civic life, education, and social services. This program will provide students with a rich grounding in community-engaged approaches to responding to social issues that address the health and well-being of diverse communities in New Zealand.

Students will learn about strategies on how to engage with communities in order to create change; honoring indigenous knowledge and practices, working to enhance leadership, and facilitating change in the context of large social institutions.

Learning adventures include:

  • Guided tour of Auckland, including Sky Tower and the harbor bridge
  • Visit Rotorua and be immersed in the cultural experience of the Maori people at Mitai Maori Village
  • Visits to multiple social service agencies to learn about all kinds of collaborative work designed to promote opportunity, equality and social justice with Maori, LGBT and other diverse communities

Enjoy the amazing landscape and wonderful people of New Zealand!
