Program Description 

This direct-enrollment summer study abroad program allows you to attend an international summer program at JAMK University of Applied Sciences in Jyväskylä, Finland. You’ll be immersed in a safe and beautiful natural environment enriched by architecture created by internationally known designers, such as Alvar Aalto. You’ll be able to explore the stunning Finnish landscape through a variety of outdoor activities, in a region recognized as one of the most beautiful areas in the nation.

  • Take an evening cruise on Lake Paijanne (Finland's longest and deepest lake)
  • Learn the cultural importance of sauna at a Finnish sauna-night with BBQ and swimming
  • Experience a traditional Midsummer Finnish celebration
  • Join in on soccer games with students from around the world
  • Optional tours available to Tallinn, Estonia; Stockholm, Sweden; and St. Petersburg, Russia to learn about their unique history, culture and architecture!


Course

Students can earn up to 6 units on this program. However, students may not apply JAMK course units towards multiple SJSU courses (see below for approved courses).

Ex: If you take Global Team Leadership and Europe as a Market Area at JAMK, you can use them to fulfill either HSPM 101 OR BUS5 164A at SJSU, not both.

 

For RECL 180 (3 units), students must take the following JAMK course:

  • Concept Lab: Multidisciplinary Game Development Project

 

For MCOM 180ITL (3 units), students must take the following JAMK course:

  • Concept Lab: Multidisciplinary Game Development Project

 

For HSPM 101 (3 units), students must take 2 of the following JAMK courses:

  • Global Team Leadership
  • Mastering European Business
  • Scandinavian Business Culture and Communication
  • Russian Business Culture and Language
  • International Business Speaking

For HSPM 143 (3 units), students must take 2 of the following JAMK courses:

  • Global Destination Branding
  • Digital Solutions in Service Management
  • Services Design
  • Sport Event Management
     

For BUS5 164A (3 units), students must take 2 of the following JAMK courses:

  • Global Team Leadership
  • Nordic Business Culture and Communication
  • Russian Business Culture and Language

For BUS4 118S (3 units), students must take the following JAMK course:

  • Concept Lab: Multidisciplinary Game Development Project
     

For COMM 192* (3 units), students must take 2 of the following JAMK courses:

  • Creativity Management
  • Global Team Leadership
  • International Business Speaking
  • Nordic Business Culture and Communication
  • Russian Business Culture and Language


*COMM 192 can be counted as 3 units of F (foundations) or P (practice) credit in the COMM major. If you have already earned all of your F and P units, the COMM department may also accept the units as additional COMM units towards the COMM major. COMM students need to meet with a member of the COMM advising team prior to departure to discuss how you will apply these units towards your degree plan.

   


Cost

It is important to note that each program's total cost will vary depending on the location and the package it offers.  

$750 SJSU Special Session Tuition ($250 per unit)*
$200 Administrative Fee 
$2,115 Program fees, lodging, class materials and class related tours approximately**
$3,065 Total Program Cost

 

*This cost is for one three-unit SJSU course. 

**Airfare is not included. Students will need approximately $320-$600 for meals and free time.
