B.A. Earth Science

Pacific Ocean

This major provides broad background in the Earth sciences and a foundation for taking the relevant California Subject Examination for Teachers (CSET), which is required by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) to verify subject matter competency in the Earth and Space Sciences. Students interested in teaching science in high school or middle school should take the specified elective courses (consult with the Undergraduate Advisor as needed).

Students interested in becoming teachers must meet credential program standards and undergo screening for admission. See SJSU's Secondary Education homepage for information on application and admission to credential programs.

The following is a general outline of the course requirements for the B.A. in Earth Science degree.  For specific questions, please contact the department's Undergraduate Advisor.
