About Sigma Omicron Pi

The purpose of Sigma Omicron Pi is to promote unity, lifelong friendships, leadership and community service. Our organization offers women a supportive network of sisters to achieve academic and social growth. Each one of our sisters come from different walks of life and have different interests and aspirations, yet we all share one common ground – ΣΟΠ. We have based our sisterhood on four objectives: UNITY, FRIENDSHIP, LEADERSHIP, and SERVICE. Our tradition of lifelong friendship has prevailed for over 7 decades.

The Gamma Chapter of Sigma Omicron Pi at San José State University was founded on June 6, 1992 by 8 Asian American women. We the first Asian American interest sorority on the San José State University campus. Since then, our chapter has grown in active members to over 150 women, and our reputation has developed to become one of the most respectable organizations on campus. We continue to withhold the strong traditions of our sisterhood, bounded by our objectives – Unity, Friendship, Leadership, and Service.
