What is the Spartans Supporting Spartans Annual Campaign?
Faculty and staff are the heart of the San José State experience. This new annual campaign is another way for all of us to show our Spartan pride by supporting what we believe in—the university’s vision to transform the lives of our students. Gifts made towards the Spartans Supporting Spartans campaign will count as a part of Acceleration: The Campaign of San José State University.

What is the Acceleration Campaign?
Acceleration is our first-ever comprehensive fundraising campaign. It is about moving forward at a powerful pace with the abundant resources that will allow us to fulfill our ambitions. It’s about accelerating the lives of the extraordinary students we educate, energizing our region and expanding our reach. Most of all, Acceleration is about re-engaging those who love San José State, including faculty and staff,  and asking them to partner with us as we invest in what promises to be a dynamic and exciting tomorrow.

Why should I support San José State?
Giving is a personal decision and most of us support causes we believe in. Each person who gives to San José State has their own answer to that question. In addition to your daily contribution of energy, effort and expertise, a financial contribution is a different and important way to demonstrate your investment in SJSU and more importantly, its students. The reasons for giving are diverse, but all reflect a sincere belief in the work being done here at San José State. Ultimately, your participation in the Spartans Supporting Spartans campaign is a vote of confidence in the university and its future. Any gift you make will contribute to a sense of partnership and pride across campus and demonstrates to students and to others—alumni, parents, community partners, foundations, corporations—that this is an institution worth investing in.

What can I give to?
You have many choices, but we could not begin to list them all. You may choose to support the college or department you work in or from which you graduated. You may choose to support one of the Acceleration campaign priorities or you may want to broadly support the university and its students by giving to the King Library or Athletics. The only guideline is, it’s best to make a gift to an already established fund. How much should I give?
You determine the size as well as the designation of your gift according to your own charitable interests, your personal willingness to give and your financial capacity. No gift is too small. Participation is key.

What are the different ways to give?
There are several ways to make your gift: by check, by credit card, by payroll deduction or online at sjsu.edu/giving/facstaff (web address TBD). All are quick and easy. How does payroll deduction work?
Payroll deductions are one of the fastest, easiest and most convenient ways to make a gift. Payroll deductions allow you to spread your gift out over time. Smaller monthly amounts add up to much bigger gifts:

Each month the specified amount is automatically deducted from each paycheck. Payroll deductions begin with the July pay period and are automatically renewed each July. Any time you would like to make a change to your deduction amount, designation or end date please contact Advancement Services at ext. 4-1799. Please note that for payroll deduction, one annual receipt is sent in January detailing the prior year’s gifts.

How long is the Spartans Supporting Spartans campaign?
The campaign runs for about six weeks each spring, from early March to mid-April.

What’s the difference between the annual California State Employee Charitable Campaign and the Spartans Supporting Spartans Campaign?
The Spartans Supporting Spartans campaign focuses on giving to the SJSU program or fund closest to your heart, whereas the State Employee Charitable campaign allows you to give to San José State or any number of charitable organizations outside of the university. A key difference between the two campaigns is that a 100 percent of your Spartans Supporting Spartans campaign gift goes to where you designate it—right here at San José State! Gifts made through the state employee campaign have a 16 percent administration fee deducted from them.
