Spartan Voices
The SJSU College of Education has provided me with an excellent background to enable me to expand my career from teacher to administrator to college instructor.

Through our rigorous undergraduate and graduate study, and professional credentialing
programs, the Connie L. Lurie College of Education has been preparing educators throughout
Silicon Valley for over a century and a half. From our beginning as a normal school, our programs have prepared some of the best,
brightest, and most committed educators in the San Francisco Bay Area. Today, we lead the way in stewarding critical education change in some of the Bay
Area’s most challenging communities, preparing educators to help today’s highly diverse
learners achieve, and bridging research and professional practice to ensure our graduates
are uniquely equipped to lead any learning community irrespective of socioeconomic
conditions.
The Lurie College of Education is at a turning point, having launched an ambitious effort to raise $19 million as part of San José State University’s $200 million Acceleration campaign. The Lurie College of Education is seeking endowed and planned gifts from its friends and alumni, as these types of gifts are an important part of the college’s lifeline and longevity. Additionally, annual gifts have an immediate impact on the college’s mission for those who want to make a difference today. With these gifts, we’re able to recruit strong and innovative faculty members and attract students with the ability to impact the many struggling schools in our community. This has also set the stage for the college community to begin our journey towards achieving the Next Level of Excellence.
In order to begin our journey towards the Next Level of Excellence we must meet our fundraising goal. Once that has been achieved, the Lurie College of Education is committed to building or enhancing the following programs and initiatives:
- The Co-Teaching Program: Changing the Culture of Clinical Practice for Teacher Candidates;
- Infusing and Preserving the Arts in Education: Building the STEM pipeline;
- Doctorate (Ed.D) in Executive Leadership in Education program; and
- LCOE’s Student Success Center: Establishing a one-stop service center for career services, academic advising and pre-service programs.
A critical component of having a strong community within the Lurie College of Education is our alumni. Together we’ll take the college to into the future. Please consider making an annual gift online. If you would like more information about an endowed or planned gift, please feel free to contact me.
