Financial Assistance

There are several options for graduate students to receive financial assistance at San Jose State University. Students may be able to combine federal/state grants, loans, work/study programs and scholarships that are available through the financial aid office and outside agencies in order to fund their education. There are many scholarships, both need and merit based, that are administered by SJSU academic departments. Students should contact these departments directly for more information on specific criteria, deadlines and application instructions.

Eligibility

Domestic Applicants: Federal funded assistance or programs are only available to U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens. Visit the Financial Aid Office of San Jose State University to receive complete instructions on how to apply for financial assistance.

International Applicants: San Jose State University is a state funded public institution. Therefore, international students (F-1 visa applicants) are required to show that they will have sufficient funds available to them throughout their entire enrollment before admission is granted. Most of our students get their funds from families and friends. A few will receive scholarships or financial assistance from their government or private organizations. International students are encouraged to explore their scholarship options on their own, before submitting an application to graduate school.
