Frank Ortega

Frank Ortega is currently a Ph.D. candidate in Sociology at Texas A&M University.  He received his M.S. in Sociology from Texas A&M University in 2013 and a B.A. in History from San José State University in 2010, where he was a McNair scholar.  While at San José State University, Frank conducted research investigating the historical and political implications of sports and academic achievement within the Latina/o community, ultimately presenting that research at a national conference.  Frank’s dedication to students and teaching is impressive.  He started as a student assistant while attending junior college and continued in that role with different professors through his academic career until 2013.  He became a graduate student lecturer in 2013, where he had the opportunity to teach both a large lecture class and a smaller seminar program for first generation college students.  He is currently a research assistant to Dr. Joe Feagin, where he is also able to explore his research interests in media, education, and health.  Frank is dedicated to givng back to his community and his teaching, research and service background is clearly well aligned with CSU’s mission to serve the public good.  He will be an excellent addition to the CSU faculty.
