Commitments of our Graduates

We commit ourselves to health, and the professional actions that protect, support, and enhance the health of individuals, organizations, communities, and our world.

We will lead by example, working ethically, with purpose, passion, and integrity.

We will work collectively, creating partnerships and establishing allies and relationships.

We commit to "starting where the people are" always engaging in respectful dialogue.

We will honor our families, our cultures, and our traditions – and we will honor and respect those of others.

We understand that our work in the field is a larger commitment to social justice and individual freedoms.

We will take risks. Be fearless in the face of opposition. Choose battles wisely, and challenge the traditional ways of thinking.

We understand that health is complex and our work requires an open mind. We will use wisdom from our lived experience and the knowledge gained from our education to work strategically and thoughtfully.

We commit to lifelong learning and continually challenging ourselves through work, education, and adventure.

We will think globally and act locally with passion and joy, always remembering to celebrate successes.

We will work towards inclusion and a spirit of diversity.

We will be advocates for change, linking research to practice and breathing fire into policy through activism. We commit to being the change we wish to see in our communities.

These commitments were developed by the graduating seniors and MPH students in the Class of 2006. They were read by the graduating class at their department graduation Convocation, May 2006.
