Honors Programs

SJSU has the following general honors recognition programs.

Additionally many colleges, departments, and individual programs also have their own honor programs. To find out more about these specific programs contact the individual offices or visit their websites.

Graduating with Honors

Awarded to students achieving a cumulative grade point average in all university and college work including all work undertaken at SJSU of no less than:

  • Summa Cum Laude: 3.85
  • Magna Cum Laude: 3.70
  • Cum Laude: 3.50

President's and Dean's Scholars

Inaugurated in 1962 by three honor societies, Phi Kappa Phi, Sigma Xi and Phi Beta Kappa Faculty Club, to recognize and encourage superior academic achievement at SJSU.

President's Scholars

Undergraduate students who have earned a 4.0 grade point average for at least two contiguous semesters of the three semesters prior to the Honors Convocation, held during spring semester. President's Scholars page.

Deans' Scholars

Undergraduate students who have earned a 3.65 or higher grade point average for at least two contiguous semesters of the three semesters prior to the Honors Convocation, held during spring semester. Deans' Scholars page.

Note:

The minimal load allowed is the student's full program of graded courses or twelve units, whichever is larger.
