The following information on ergonomics will enable computer users to complete an ergonomic self-evaluation that will assist in improving ergonomic settings and workstation comfort.
By completing a self-evaluation, employees should be able to identify and make key workstation and equipment item adjustments.
Step 1 - Familiarize and adjust your workstation and posture using this Ergonomic Reference Illustration (PDF).
Pay attention to your chair, body posture, keyboard, mouse, and monitor placement. After you position yourself and workstation equipment as shown in the illustration, go to step 2.
Step 2 - Evaluate your workstation and postures using the OSHA e-Tool computer self-evaluation checklist.
Step 3 - Based on results from the OSHA e-Tool self-evaluation, determine if improvements can be made to body posture, existing furniture, and accessories or if any additional furniture and accessories are needed. If you answered "No" to any of the questions on the checklist, review the applicable workstation components on the OSHA e-Tool site.
Step 4 - Request and/or procure the appropriate furniture and/or accessories as needed.
