On August 12, 2005, the California Occupational Safety and Health Standards Board voted to adopt an emergency standard on heat illness prevention, proposed by the CalOSHA.
This new regulation took effect on August 22, 2005, with HR Letter 2006-05 and makes the program a permanent part of worker safety.
Employees at San José State University who work outdoors in the heat shall have access to drinking water and shaded areas.
SJSU has a Heat Stress Fact Sheet so that employees can be aware of the risks and preventative measures of heat illness, including how to recognize symptoms and respond when they appear.
