CSU Bereavement/Funeral Leave

Eligibility

All collective bargaining agreements provide for paid bereavement leave for the purposes of preparing, attending and/or traveling to a funeral for the employee's immediate family or close relative. Because the definitions vary, we have provided a table below for your reference.  Please refer to your specific Current Collective Bargaining Agreements for more details.

Process

All request should be made through an Immediate Supervisor or Appropriate Department Administrator (MPP) . Paid bereavement leave and Sick leave for the purpose of bereavement are two different types of leave. The employee and manager are responsible for entering and approving this time in absence management.  Upon request, bereavement/funeral leave may be supplemented with an employee’s own leave credits.
