Stretch Break Software Request

Ergonomic Evaluation Request

Ergonomics is the science of fitting equipment to people to increase efficiency and reduce the risk of injury. Ergonomics is used to prevent discomfort and injury associated with repetitive motions, unchanging and/or poor postures, and forceful motions or grips on objects.

Stretch Break Software

Stretch Break is an ergonomic software program that helps prevent computer related injuries by gently reminding you to take periodic breaks while using your computer. It can be installed on the work computers of SJSU employees with the help of the ITS team.

Stretch Break is now compatible with both Mac and PC.

The Stretch Break license also permits our users to download the software and install it on their personal computers at home.

  • To get started, click the “Stretch Break Software Request” button.
  • You will be prompted to create an IT Helpdesk ticket using your SJSU email address and password.
  • Your ticket will be routed to your local IT representative, and within 48 hours, your local IT representative will perform a remote installation or contact you to schedule an office visit to perform the installation.  You will also receive an email that provides instructions for the home computer installation process.

Ergonomic Evaluations

Ergonomic evaluations and training are designed to analyze and evaluate an employee’s workspace, equipment, body mechanics, posture, and work flow to promote a more efficient and productive work space. Upon completion, an ergonomic evaluation report will be provided to the employee’s supervisor. The report will identify key workstation adjustments and provide recommendations for any related ergonomic equipment items.

Employees must notify their supervisor before submitting an Ergonomic Evaluation Request. There is no fee for this service; however, the purchase of any ergonomic related equipment will need to be approved by the employee’s appropriate administrator.

Before requesting an ergonomic evaluation, Employees are encouraged to review the following Ergonomic Self-Assessment information and complete the Computer Workstation Ergonomics online training course.

Ergonomic Self-Assessment

  • Familiarize and adjust your workstation and posture using this Ergonomics for the Computer Workstation (.pdf) illustration. Pay attention to your chair, body posture, keyboard, mouse, and monitor placement. Determine if adjustments can be made or if any additional accessories are needed.
  • After you have familiarized yourself with the above illustration, further evaluate your workstation and postures using the US Department of Labor - Computer Workstation eTool Evaluation. If you answered "No" to any of the questions on the checklist, review the applicable section of the eTool for assistance.
  • Contact the HR Ergonomic program coordinator at 924-2155 if you have any questions about workstation adjustments, equipment recommendations, or to request an ergonomic evaluation
