Recent/Current Courses Taught:Bio/Academic Interests:Retiring in 2000 after a thirty two year career in municipal recreation in three different cities, the last twenty years spent serving as the Director of Parks and Recreation for the city of Cupertino. I have been a part-time faculty member at SJSU since 1979. During that time I have also taught at Sacramento and San Francisco state universities. In the spring of 2004, I was honored with the departments Mary S. Wiley award for teaching excellence. |

Recent/Current Courses Taught:HRTM 107 - Legal Aspects of Hospitality Management, Business 80 - Business Law Bio/Academic Interests:Mr. Dworak is partner in Berliner Cohen,San Jose's largest business law firm dedicated to serving the business needs of Silicon Valley. (www.berliner.com). Among many other projects, his law firm represented the developer who revamped downtown San Jose with the marquee Fairmont Hotel. He helped launch the Hospitality Management program at SJSU, and has received many accolades for his teaching. Professionally he has served with distinction as Special Master for the California State Bar and as a Judge Pro Tem for the Superior Court of California. His peers has recognized as on of the “Best Lawyers in Silicon Valley for 2004 Ð 2008 by the San Jose Magazine. After conducting annual surveys of over 52,000 lawyers and judges, the Law & Politics Edition of the San Francisco Magazine has identified his as a Northern California Super Lawyer for 2004, 2007 and 2008. He attended Roxbury Memorial High School (Boys), held an athletic scholarship to Deleware State University, where he received his bachelor's degree in Health and Physical Education. He received a Mott Fellowship at San Jose State University where he also earned his MA in Education Administration & Community Education. Mr. Hewitt has held professional positions as a teacher in Boston Public Schools; Executive Director, City of San Jose Parks & Recreation Department, Neighborhood Services Program; Founder/Executive Director, Santa Cruz West Mission Street Health Center. His awards include Delaware State University Athletic Hall of Fame, 3 California Parks and Recreation Society Excellence Awards, and the Martin Luther King "Good Neighbor" Award. |

Recent/Current Courses Taught:HRTM 100W - Writing, HRTM 10 - Creating A Meaningful Life, HRTM 90 - Recreation Foundations, HRTM 134 - Human Resource Management Bio/Academic Interests:A recently retired Supervisor with the City of Oakland's Parks and Recreation Department, Mr. Lange has also been active for some time as an actor, playwright and director in the Bay Area. His most recent play was directing 'Shakespeare's Lost Masterpiece' in San Francisco and Oakland, a world premiere. He has won awards for 'Best Director' and 'Best Play' in 2001 and 2003 respectively. Also in 2003 he won 'Best Supporting Actor' at the ARTYS Drama Awards ceremonies. Since 1990 Lange toured the United States extensively portraying the fiery human rights leader Malcolm X, in over 750 live performances. Lange also writes and performs with 'Light Harmony and Sound', a folk-blues guitar trio. He has been teaching the 'Creating A Meaningful Life' course at San Jose State since 1998. |

He is a graduate of San Jose State University and City College of San Francisco and has earned the prestigious Foodservice Management Professional (FMP) designation from the National Restaurant Association. His extensive management experience includes owning a restaurant and catering business and managing a high volume motorcycle dealership. Richard has kept busy as a freelance journalist, a real estate investor, Motorcycle Safety Instructor and endurance athlete. In 2007 he completed his seventh marathon and an athletic career highlight, Ironman Triathlon. Richard has been a lecturer at San Jose State University since 1995. He helped create
several classes and provides oversight to a unique class working in partnership with
Pebble Beach Resorts. |

Professionally and personally Linda Lives creatively and abundantly. Her current professional pursuits are many and include: SJSU professor, professional clown, life coach, grief counselor, and workshop presenter through her business Surprise Enterprise. Her research explores the phenomenon of integrating personal transformation into daily life. As a therapist, she specializes in the treatment of women survivors of sexual trauma, post traumatic stress, and adventure therapy. In partnership with indigenous elders, Suzy leads study abroad to ancient Peruvian Inka sites to facilitate healing and the recovery of indigenous wisdom through sacred play. As a scholar, Dr. Ross has several published articles in peer-reviewed journals and has spoken at conferences across diverse disciplines. She is currently writing a book based upon her doctoral research entitled "The Hidden Half of Transformation." She provides support to the community through consultation and private practice. Suzy lives near the ocean and loves to be immersed in nature. |

Recent/Current Courses Taught:HRTM 153- Youth Development and Services, HRTM 152- Non-Profit Leaders Bio/Academic Interests:Roger is managing partner in the firm of Volker and Breshears. He is an internationally respected facilitator, author, management consultant, grant writer and evaluator. He has, for many years, been regarded as a national leader in the areas of public health, substance abuse prevention, and community collaboration. Currently, Roger provides evaluation and management services to various non-profit agencies as well as federal and state governments on health care. Until his retirement in 2005, Roger was the Executive Director of Nevada's primary care association where he developed millions of dollars in new resources for Community Health Centers and Tribal Clinics. He is a former Deputy Director of the El Dorado County, CA Public Health Department. In 1996, Roger served as a community organizer and resource developer in Bosnia for Save the Children and helped to build over 300 schools for war-affected children. Roger was a founding board member for the Boys and Girls Club of South Lake Tahoe and served for 8 years as a board member of United Way of Northern Nevada. He was appointed by the Governor and served as Chairman of Nevada's Maternal and Child Health Advisory Board and was Chairman of the Nevada Trust Fund for Public Health. In 1993, Roger was awarded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation with a four year Join Together Fellowship at Boston University. Early in his career, Roger was Grants Manager District IX for the Florida Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services, supervising over 35 million dollars in grants to local non-profit agencies. Roger holds a B.A. in history from Concordia College, Ft Wayne, IN and a Master of Divinity from Concordia Seminary, St Louis, MO. |

She also is working as an academic counselor at Northwestern Polytechnic University. Dr. Wey had served as an Associate Professor in the Department of Information Management, Da-Yeh University, Taiwan, for ten years before moving to California. She has published a book in interface design and a number of academic and professional articles. Her research interests include management information system, e-learning system, and user-centered system. She holds a BS in Textile and Clothing from the Fu-Jen Catholic University (Taiwan), a MS in Textile Science with a minor in Business Administration from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Tennessee, and a Ph.D. in Instructional Technology from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. She enjoys traveling, gardening, and living with a relaxing lifestyle. As a foreign student and faculty herself, Dr. Wey likes to help students in seeking a successful life on an American university campus. |

Ranjan obtained his Ph.D. in Tourism with a minor in Cultural Anthropology from Penn State University, and his dissertation explored the politics of heritage tourism in India. Previously, he taught at the Nottingham University Business School, UK. His research interests include sociology of tourism, visual culture, politics of representation, postcolonialism, nationalism, heritage, nostalgia, identity and social justice. Randy earned his doctorate from the College of Natural Resources at Utah State University. Prior to joining SJSU in the summer of 2008, he served as a faculty member and founding Director of the School of Community Resources and Development at Arizona State University. Dr. Virden's research interest and expertise include the application of social science knowledge to parks and protected area management, leisure and tourism behavior, tourism development, natural resource planning and policy, visitor management, and nature-based tourism. His research projects include working with the National Park Service, U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, Arizona Office of Tourism, Arizona State Parks, Maricopa County Parks and Recreation Department and Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department. In his free time, Randy enjoys hiking, mountain biking, photography, watching movies, travelling and spending time with his family. |

He has taught a variety of courses in both the undergraduate and graduate programs. Dr. Yen has published in a number of academic and professional journals. He also has presented his research at national and international conferences. His research interests include service quality, service management, culture and tourism, information technology, marketing research, and consumer behavior. He holds a BB in Tourism from the Chinese Culture University ( Taiwan), an MBA with a concentration in transportation from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Tennessee, an MS and a Ph.D. in leisure studies from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.
