Student Club
The Hospitality, Recreation, and Tourism Management Society
Following the merging of the Recreation & Leisure Studies and the Hospitality Management Departments, the Hospitality, Recreation, and Tourism Management Society (HRT Management Society for short) was founded. HRT Management Society is composed of intelligent students looking to further their experience and education in the field of recreation or hospitality. Members are looking to accomplish this outside of the classroom through hands-on experience with fellow members. The HRT Management Society's purpose is to share our accumulated knowledge and skills with the student body of SJSU and the surrounding community. We strive to become a well-established role model by developing partnerships with the students of the university, prospective industry professionals, and the community as a whole.
HRT Management Society wants to be more than a predictable meeting with dry guest speakers and no interaction or participation. We want to focus instead on planning events and programs, which will benefit both ourselves and our peers. In the last year, we have hosted numerous successful events, including a department-wide breakfast, a downtown scavenger hunt, and campus-wide barbeques and bake sales. Additionally, we were involved in several community service events such as KaBoom, Stepping Stones, SJSU Day of Service, and Trick-or-Treat for a Cause.
Every member is valued because each has a distinct background with unique experiences and ideas. All are encouraged to participate and contribute. The officers will work with the assistance of volunteer committees to implement suggested programs. HRT Management Society provides an excellent opportunity to deepen your knowledge of the hospitality, recreation, and tourism management, as well as to have fun with peers and get involved in the community. Membership is not limited to HRT students; all are welcome! For more information email us at h.r.t.managementsociety@gmail.com.
