The Hospitality, Recreation, and Tourism Management Society

Following the merging of the Recreation & Leisure Studies and the Hospitality Management Departments, the Hospitality, Recreation, and Tourism Management Society (HRT Management Society for short) was founded. HRT Management Society is composed of intelligent students looking to further their experience and education in the field of recreation or hospitality.  The members are looking to accomplishing this outside of the classroom and with hands-on experience from other fellow members. The HRT Management Society’s purpose is to share our learned knowledge and skills with the student body of SJSU and the surrounding community. We strive to become a well-established role model by developing partnerships with the students of the university, prospective industry professionals as well as the community.

HRT Management Society does not want to be one of those commonplace and customary clubs that only invites guest speakers to attend each meeting. We want to focus more on planning events or programs, which will help teach our peers as well. Creativity in event planning will allow us to display to the campus community, as well as any members of the industry, just what the HRT Management Society does for activities.  To date the Society has hosted the following successful events: a department wide breakfast, a downtown scavenger hunt, an all campus BBQ, we built a playground in Redwood City with the non-profit organization "KaBoom," and we are in the planning stage of an all industry mixer for Spring 2009.  Each club member is important because each has a different set of ideas or way of looking at something.  Solicited ideas for events are carefully considered and if feasible, are put into action. HRT Management Society is an excellent way of getting a head start in your future in the hospitality, recreation, and event planning or leisure studies field. Consider that even if you’re not a HRT student...this is a great place to have fun.  Each month there are at least 3 events on the calendar in which one can involved.  Contact our president Barbara Pando at barbpando@gmail.com or vice-president Tressa Frische at tefrische@sbcglobal.net for more information.
