MPH Program: Distance Format

In recognition of the increasing global need for graduate public health education, our CEPH-accredited MPH program created an online 42-unit, 24-month Distance Education option. The MPH Distance format uses state-of-the-art synchronous web conferencing that includes two-way audio, multi-point video, interactive whiteboard, application and desktop sharing, virtual breakout rooms, and session recording. Distance students engage with their professors and peers as if they were in a traditional classroom, but in the convenience of their home or work office.

All distance courses are delivered online, and students meet once a year for 4-5 days (depending on the cohort) in San José. Course length varies from five to seven weeks for distance students. Courses are taught sequentially, and not concurrently, with the exception of some overlap during the practicum (HS 291 course series). In addition, in most courses, distance students meet once a week online for a live class session via the Blackboard Collaborate learning platform.
